A heartbreaking tragedy has struck the extended family of Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, as nine-year-old Janie Hunt tragically lost her life in the devastating floods that swept through Central Texas over the July 4th weekend.

Janie was attending a summer session at Camp Mystic, a girls’ camp in the Hill Country near the Guadalupe River, when torrential rains triggered flash flooding across the region. The camp was directly impacted, with significant damage reported and multiple fatalities confirmed.

According to emergency officials, the floods have resulted in over 100 confirmed deaths, with dozens still missing across the state. The disaster is being called one of the worst natural tragedies to hit Texas in recent years.

The Hunt family has spoken out publicly about the profound loss. Tavia Hunt, wife of Clark Hunt, shared an emotional tribute on social media:

“Our hearts are broken. We know that Janie is in the arms of Jesus, but we grieve deeply. How do we trust a God who heals, and yet who allows such terrible things to happen—even to children?”

Their daughter, Gracie Hunt, also shared a heartfelt message expressing her sorrow and faith:

“My heart aches for our extended family. Following Jesus doesn’t spare us from pain, but it means we never face it alone.”

The tragedy has prompted an outpouring of sympathy from across the NFL community, as well as messages of support from fans, friends, and faith groups. The Kansas City Chiefs organization released a statement offering condolences and requesting privacy for the family during this incredibly difficult time.

Meanwhile, rescue and recovery efforts continue across the affected regions. Local authorities, the National Guard, and volunteers are working tirelessly to locate those still missing and to provide aid to displaced families.

The Hunt family’s personal loss is one of many suffered across Texas in this unprecedented natural disaster. State officials are urging citizens to remain cautious as more rain is forecast in coming days.

How to Help:
If you would like to support relief efforts, donations can be made to the Texas Disaster Relief Fund and organizations such as the American Red Cross and Samaritan’s Purse, which are actively providing aid in the affected areas.
