Roseanne Barr Reunited with Daughter She Gave Up for Adoption — Thanks to a Tabloid
In a surprising twist of fate, comedian Roseanne Barr has revealed that a tabloid magazine played a key role in reuniting her with the daughter she placed for adoption as a teenager.
In her new documentary Roseanne Is America, Barr recounts how the National Enquirer tracked down her daughter by bribing someone in Colorado to access adoption records. “They got my name, her name, and her adoptive parents’ names,” Barr explained. “Am I upset about it? No. I’m grateful.”
The emotional story dates back to 1971, when an 18-year-old Barr gave birth at the Salvation Army Home for Unwed Mothers in Denver. Before saying goodbye, she made a heartfelt promise to her newborn: “I’ll see you again when you’re 18, because I’m not going to change my name, I’m going to be famous. I’m going to have my own show named Roseanne.”
True to her word, the pair reunited when her daughter, Brandi Brown, was 17. In 2024, Barr shared a touching photo of them together on Instagram, wearing shirts that read “love” and “peace.” She captioned the image: “Oldest bb 52 yrs old reunited @ aged 17! GD is good.”
Barr, now also known for her outspoken political views, has four other children: Jessica, 50; Jennifer, 49; and Jake, 47, with her first husband, Bill Pentland; and Buck, 30, with ex-husband Ben Thomas.
