Vice President JD Vance was suspended from the left-leaning social media platform Bluesky on Wednesday, only minutes after creating an account and posting his first message.
In his initial post on the X competitor, Vance wrote, “Hello Bluesky, I’ve been told this app has become the place to go for common sense political discussion and analysis. So I’m thrilled to be here to engage with all of you.”
Shortly after, the vice president commented on the recent Supreme Court decision upholding Tennessee’s restrictions on transgender medical treatments for minors.
“To that end, I found Justice [Clarence] Thomas’s concurrence on medical care for transgender youth quite illuminating,” Vance shared, attaching a screenshot of the conservative justice’s statement supporting the 6-3 ruling.

Vance was suspended just 12 minutes after making his very first post on Bluesky.
“He argues that many of our so-called ‘experts’ have relied on flawed arguments and questionable science to promote experimental therapies for our youth,” the vice president continued. “I would also point out that many of these scientists receive significant funding from big pharma to advance these medications for children.”
“What do you think?”
Just 12 minutes after Vance’s post—and his announcement on X about joining the platform—his Bluesky account was suspended, according to Axios journalist Marc Caputo.
A message on Vance’s Bluesky page read, “Not found. Account has been suspended.”
The suspension was short-lived, however, as his account was reinstated only minutes later.
There’s no indication that the vice president’s post violated any of Bluesky’s community guidelines.

The number of Bluesky users tripled in the months following President Trump’s 2024 election victory.
Bluesky launched as a decentralized social media alternative following Elon Musk’s acquisition and takeover of what was then Twitter.
The platform experienced rapid growth after President Trump’s 2024 election victory, with its user base soaring from 10 million to 30 million between November 2024 and May 2025, according to the Pew Research Center.
Many liberal-leaning X users migrated to Bluesky, seeking a space more aligned with their ideological views. Several users commenting on Vance’s post expressed frustration and anger over his presence on the platform.
“Don’t just block him. Report the account and the posts,” one user urged angrily.
Another added that they had already “reported” the vice president’s post “for misinformation.”
Bluesky, however, claimed Vance’s account was suspended over concerns that it was run by an impersonator of the vice president, not because of his post.
“Vice President Vance’s account was briefly flagged by our automated systems that try to detect impersonation attempts which have targeted public figures like him in the past. The account was quickly restored and verified so people can easily confirm its authenticity,” a spokesperson for the company said. “We welcome the Vice President to join the conversation on Bluesky.”
