As a dog owner, I can’t imagine losing my dog. It can be an unbearable experience for me. That’s what exactly happened to a man when he witnessed his dog being stolen by a man from his backyard in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
The dog owner rushed out of his house and faceed off the guy who was trying to lift the dog over the fence. The guy insisted that the pitbull was his and he wanted it back.
When the situation got worse the owner called the police but while he was on the phone the man tried to lift the dog over the fence by his collar.
Animal rescue volunteer Marizanne Ferreira said the homeowner had picked up the dog a few months earlier, despite the dog being in an unhealthy state, according to TimesLive.
The owner, who wanted to remain anonymous, even advertised the dog to make sure his original owner wasn’t looking for him, but had no response.
“He took it to the vet and put up notices for a missing dog so its owner could be located. No one ever came to claim the dog,” Marizanne told TimesLive.
The owner rushed in to the protect the dog, forcing the would-be-thief away from the dog and the he ran away.
“Pitbulls are being stolen left, right and center in this city. They are then chained, abused, used for breeding and for fighting. My advice to pitbull owners is basic: look at the security around your property,” Marizanne said.
