The problem began when Brett Galloway realized that a building owned by Ruggles Township in Ohio was partially on his property. Brett, who owns a ranch adjacent to the township-owned building, says he reported the issue to city officials.
The city did not dispute that the rear of the building, which served as the township’s garage for storing vehicles and equipment, actually belonged to Britt.
Despite the city’s admission of the violation, Brett said his efforts to resolve the situation were unsuccessful. He said he had worked on the issue for about a full year but could not come to an agreement with the city.
Brett felt that having another real estate dispute with the city already in court certainly didn’t help the negotiations.
After months of no progress on the case, Brett was surprised to find that Ruggles Town officials had in fact taken steps to resolve the case. Without any notice, city officials literally cut the building off along the line between Brett’s property and city property and put up a fence separating the two. However, the part of the building that was on Brett’s property is still in place.
“It’s pretty much the most ridiculous thing ever,” he said on Metro.
Brett and other residents wondered why the local authorities were wasting time and money tearing down the building and leaving the back of the building in place when it still encroached on Brett’s property.
The city chose not to comment on the matter, and Brett was still deciding how he would like to proceed.
