Following his rescue on January 15, 2023, Francois underwent a health assessment by a doctor, who determined that despite losing some weight due to the lack of proper food during his 24 days at sea, he was in good health and did not require medical assistance. The Colombian Navy and coast guard facilitated his return to Dominica.
Expressing gratitude to the coast guard, Francois acknowledged moments of despair during his ordeal but credited their intervention for his survival, stating, “If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be telling the story.”
After being picked up by rescuers, Francois had to abandon his deteriorating boat at sea. Heinz, upon learning of the incident, attempted to reach Francois through communication with the Colombian Navy and the Dominican government. Unfortunately, the company encountered numerous impersonators claiming to be the rescued individual.
In a Facebook Live video posted on February 22, 2023, Francois explained the difficulty of contact due to the absence of a phone. Upon seeing the video, a representative from Heinz commented, expressing their commitment to arrange the delivery of the promised boat by coordinating with those who filmed Francois.
While there is no confirmation regarding the brand of ketchup Francois consumed to sustain himself, Heinz remains resolute in fulfilling their promise to gift him a new, state-of-the-art sailboat.
Although Francois has not returned to the water since his rescue, he attested that the experience has not instilled fear of the sea in him. He eagerly anticipates the opportunity to navigate the waters again once he receives his gift
